Located in Rimouski, the National Archives in Rimouski covers a territory with an area of more than 42,850 square kilometres. The National Archives in Gaspé is located in the same territory. It has preserved the Gaspé peninsula public archives since 2010. These 2 centres are part of the network of 10 Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ) archives centres located throughout Québec.
Dedicated to the preservation and development of the Bas-Saint-Laurent region's public and private archives, the National Archives in Rimouski offers researchers and the public a reading room and efficient personnel to guide them in the use of the wide range of materials the centre holds.
Every year, it welcomes hundreds of patrons, essentially from the educational and professional sectors. They use the centre's services for research concerning the history of their families, localities or regions.

The private archives preserved there provide eloquent testimony of more than 300 years of history and, in particular, provide ample information about the early days of the seigneurial system in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region. They also cover art and culture, provincial and federal politics, education, the cooperative movement, the fishing industry and the Indigenous presence.
For their part, the public archives document State interventions in the fields of regional development, culture, employment, public security and justice, transportation and agriculture.
