Place a hold on materials

We’ve launched a temporary service that will let you borrow materials from the Grande Bibliothèque even though the public is not allowed to browse through the shelves while the library is only partially reopened.

You can place a hold on up to 15 items at a time, but no more than:

  • 10 fiction films
  • 10 nonfiction films
  • 10 music CDs
  • 10 language learning methods
  • 5 roadmaps or tourist attraction maps
  • 5 video games for adults (ages 14 or older)
  • 5 video games for children
  • 5 vinyl records
  • 10 items of any other type or medium

Placing a hold is free of charge.

Haut.HautMaterials you can place a hold on

Only materials in the Grande Bibliothèque that are part of the Universal collection and available for loan can be reserved. You can reserve an item only if:

  • it is currently borrowed by another subscriber;
  • its status allows it to be reserved.

The "Place a hold" button is displayed next to the copies list when an item can be reserved.

Haut.HautReservation request denied

A reservation request can be denied for the following reasons:

  • The catalogue lists the item as "Available", "Available later", "Available on: DD/MM/YYYY" or "Available upon request".
  • A copy of the item is available.
  • You have placed the maximum number of reservations permitted.
  • You are a child subscriber and therefore cannot borrow materials from the adult collection.
  • The balance of your account is too high ($5 for children, $10 for adults).
  • Your subscription has expired.
  • Your record is not in good standing.

Haut.HautHold available for pickup

  • BAnQ informs you by phone or by e-mail (upon request).
  • You have 4 days to pick up the item reserved in your name.
  • If you do not pick up the item or if you do not cancel your reservation during the four-day period, you will be charged a $2 fee for not honouring the reservation.
  • To borrow the item, stop by the News and new releases section (Actualités et nouveautés) during its opening hours (10 am to 10 pm, Tuesday through Sunday) with your subscriber's card and the information you received by e-mail or by phone.
