Borrowing audio books for subscribers to the Service québécois du livre adapté (SQLA)

Procedure for library staff

Audio books made available to SQLA subscribers through the ILL are not adapted materials but commercial publications available to all and that are usually removed from the ILL. Please contact the Service québécois du livre adapté for more information on the borrowing procedure of adapted materials.

The following describes the procedure to be followed when making an interlibrary loan (ILL) request for an audio book from the universal collection of Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ).

  • requesters must subscribe to SQLA and be members of their local library.

How to submit a request

  • subscribers submit the ILL request using the usual procedure of the borrowing library (in person, by telephone, e-mail or online);
  • the request is prepared and submitted by staff of the borrowing library, using the Catalogue des bibliothèques du Québec or the library's own interlibrary loan management system;
  • subscribers can also submit their request directly through the Catalogue des bibliothèques du Québec if their library belongs to the VDX interlibrary loan management system;
  • staff of the borrowing library or subscribers must fill in the field Special instructions at the bottom of the form, providing the requester's name and BAnQ client number for verification purposes.

Terms and conditions

  • the ILL policies of the borrowing library apply;
  • the borrowing library is responsible for receiving and returning materials;
  • subscribers pick up and return materials according to the usual methods of the borrowing library;
  • before returning an audio book to BAnQ, the borrowing library must ensure that the material is complete (disk(s), case, booklet) and that the disk(s) has been placed in the correct case;
  • "book rate" applies on the shipment of audio books.

Please note

  • before being sent by BAnQ, all audio books undergo quality control procedures.
