On-site film viewing

For the movie experience

The music and film section, on Level 4 of the Grande Bibliothèque, places at film lovers' disposal a viewing room and viewing stations for on-site viewing of part of the film collection of Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ). Each viewing station can be used by one or two subscribers aged 14 and over. Those who prefer group viewing can book the viewing room, which accommodates up to 20 people.

Viewing stations

It is recommended that users make a reservation to use a multimedia or viewing station to be sure they can have a station when they want it. Reservations can be made remotely on the BAnQ portal or at the Grande Bibliothèque, from the publicly available catalogue workstations or from the multimedia stations.

Viewing stations can be reserved for a maximum of two hours per day. Reservations are made in 30-minute time segments, on the hour and on the half-hour (10:00, 10:30, 11:00, and so on).

  • A subscriber's card is mandatory to reserve a workstation.
  • Your subscriber's record must be in good standing.
  • Reservations can be made up to three days in advance.
  • A workstation cannot be used or reserved using someone else's subscriber's card.
  • Unoccupied workstations can be used up to the time of the next reservation; the time will be deducted from the user's daily allowable time.

To view a film, you can then choose from the collection of films that are available for viewing on site.

For more information, please refer to FAQ about the reservation system for multimedia and viewing stations.

The viewing room

The viewing room is soundproofed and has a multimedia station equipped with a CD/DVD player connected to a projection system and a surround sound system. There is a videocassette player for viewing VHS films.

You can book the room for group viewing for a minimum of 5 persons and up to 20 persons. To make a reservation, your record must be in good standing and you must present your subscriber’s card. This room is intended mainly for viewing sessions and may not be used for commercial purposes. Films being viewed there must be from collection of films intended for on-site viewing.
