Submit your legal deposit in 5 steps

Hello,

Due to a cybersecurity breach, we have shut down part of our online services.

This downtime affects the publishers’ extranet. It is currently impossible to report the legal deposit of an analogue publication.

Please submit your publications by using the PDF forms listed further down this page (step 4). However, we will not be able to acknowledge receipt of your deposits during this downtime.

We are working to secure our site’s security settings in order to gradually restore all our online services, scheduled during the week of July 11.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Step 1: Make sure legal deposit applies to your publication

Make sure legal deposit applies to your publication by referring to Article 3 of the Regulation respecting the legal deposit.

Please note that a published document must at the very least feature a mandatory set of elements: title page, page count, publication date, name of the author and name of the editor. It must also have received some basic editing regarding language, layout and presentation.

Step 2: Specify that your document is intended for legal deposit

This information must be written in the following manner: ‟Legal Deposit, Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec”, followed by the publication year.

For example: Legal Deposit, Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec, 2022.

If the document is a book, this information must be written on the back of the title page.

Step 3: Register to the extranet

BAnQ provides a management section dedicated to publishers. Register to the extranet  (in French) by filling out this registration form (in French) to proceed with the legal deposit of your analogue publications and manage your deposits online.

Step 4: Fill out the legal deposit form

Fill out the online legal deposit form by logging on the extranet and by clicking on ‟Signaler un nouveau dépôt imprimé” (Report a new printed deposit).

If you are unable to use the extranet, you can fill out and sign one of the legal deposit forms in PDF format:

Step 5: Deposit your publication with Bibliothèque nationale – Site Rosemont (the National Library in Rosemont)

Print the form you filled out (online or in PDF format) and include it with the two copies or the single copy to be deposited. Then send all the materials to the National Library. You can mail them to the following address:

Section du dépôt légal
Direction du dépôt légal et des acquisitions
Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec
Bibliothèque nationale – Site Rosemont
2275, rue Holt
Montréal (Québec)
H2G 3H1

You can also bring them onsite, either at the National Library (in Rosemont), Monday through Friday from 8 am to 6 pm, or at the National Library (at the Grande Bibliothèque), Tuesday through Friday, from 10 am through 5 pm.
