Would you like to know what's happening here and elsewhere on a daily basis? Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ) has a vast collection of journals, magazines and newspapers from a number of countries, available in hard copy or electronic format.

The journal, magazine and newspaper collection is for all patrons of the Grande Bibliothèque, including teenagers and children.

Top Printed periodicals and newspapers

The collection of print newspapers, located on the ground floor of the Grande Bibliothèque, includes:

  • nearly 100 newspapers, including the latest editions which are available free of charge;
  • some 60 Québec newspapers reflecting Québec's various regions and their realities; all of the major dailies, as well as Montréal and regional weeklies are available for on-site reading;
  • newspapers from Canada and other countries, such as Le Droit, The New York Times, The Times of London, The Times of India and Le Monde;
  • newspapers in various languages, which, among other things, allow newcomers to Québec to keep in touch with their country of origin - El Watan in Arabic, Ta Nea in Greek, El Pais in Spanish and Il Corriere italiano in Italian;
  • past issues of newspapers are stored and available upon request.

Newspapers are received every morning, for the most part. They are grouped geographically (Québec newspapers, Canadian newspapers and foreign newspapers) and are classified in alphabetical order by title.

Québec newspapers published within the last month and foreign newspapers published within the last three months are kept in a closed storeroom. To read them, inquire with staff at the newspaper section desk, at the end of the subscription desk. You may pick up to five items at a time.

The Grande Bibliothèque has a wide collection of printed periodicals, most of which are located on Level 2. Several titles can also be found on the ground floor and in the Children's Library (Espace Jeunes).

You can check out any periodical, at the rate of 10 issues at once for a period of three weeks, with the exception of the last issue received, which is available for on-site reference only. You can freely pick up any issue of the current year on the display shelves out of 1,300 printed periodicals...
