The National Archives in Gaspé covers a territory of over 20,270 sq. km. Located in the Musée de la Gaspésie, it is part of a network of 10 facilities located throughout Québec where the public and private archives acquired by Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ) are kept.
Dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the Gaspésie's public archives, it offers researchers and the general public a reading room and efficient staffers to guide them in the use of the wide rage of materials it holds and of the research tools it provides. Every year, the National Archives in Gaspé welcomes hundreds of visitors from the general public and from the educational, professional and cultural sectors. They rely on BAnQ's services for research concerning the history of their families, towns or regions.
The National Archives in Gaspé provides access to over 600 linear metres of textual materials, as well as photographs, maps and plans and sound recordings. The oldest archives can be traced back to 1789.

The public archives preserved there provide eloquent testimony of more than 225 years of history regarding the State's intervention in the fields of regional development, culture, employment, public security and justice, transportation and agriculture.
