COVID-19 Update

The Grande Bibliothèque and all the other BAnQ facilities are currently closed.

Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ) has closed its facilities Saturday, March 14 in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Québec government to control the spread of COVID-19 and protect its employees and the general public. This includes the Grande Bibliothèque, BAnQ Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie and BAnQ’s ten archives centres in Montréal, Quebec City, Gatineau, Sherbrooke, Rouyn-Noranda, Trois-Rivières, Rimouski, Saguenay, Sept-Îles and Gaspé.

Events that would have been held in BAnQ’s venues are cancelled, though some are postponed to a later date. 

Measures have been taken to prevent Grande Bibliothèque patrons from being penalized regarding materials placed on hold or returned, specifically:

  • The loan period of every borrowed item has been automatically graced with a 70-day extension. Patrons can access their account to take note of the new due dates;
  • The timeframe to claim materials on which a hold has been placed has also been extended by 56 days. This measure will not have an impact on reservation ranks;
  • No fines will be charged for reserved items unclaimed as of March 10;
  • Exceptionally, drop chutes located by the Grande Bibliothèque’s main entrance will remain open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
