Two documentary groups from BAnQ’s heritage collections now included in the Canada Memory of the World Register

The Canadian Commission for UNESCO (CCUNESCO) announced on March 27 that two documentary groups from the heritage collections of Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ) will henceforth be listed in the Canada Memory of the World Register. The Register lists exceptional works and documents that reflect the wealth and diversity of Canada's heritage materials.

Following are the two collections submitted by BAnQ to the Canada Memory of the World Register:

  • Witnesses of Founding Cultures: Early Books in Aboriginal Languages (1556-1900)

‟The Canada Memory of the World Register functions as an extension of our mission, which is to bring together, process, preserve and promote Québec’s heritage materials for the benefit of today’s users and those in generations to come. We are extremely proud that the collections we submitted were favourably received by the Commission, and that it recognized the outstanding heritage value of these unique and irreplaceable materials,” said Geneviève Pichet, BAnQ’s acting CEO.
