Reopening of the Grande Bibliothèque: End of Rest Stop for People Experiencing Homelessness

As the Grande Bibliothèque moves to gradually resume its services and adapt its layout accordingly, it must put an end to the rest stop that has operated in the hall of the building over the past seven weeks.

A positive assessment

This unique collaboration between Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec and the City of Montréal has been a smooth one. It allowed people in need to take advantage on a daily basis of a pleasantly redesigned space during confinement.

Since April 12, approximately 50 people came in daily for a moment of rest and shelter from the elements in the library's hall. All in all, the library welcomed around 200 individuals who have been thankful for the facility, a peaceful haven according to many.
