Dany Laferrière sculpture on display at the Grande Bibliothèque

Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ) is proud of its new temporary acquisition on display in the Jardin d’art de la Grande Bibliothèque: a statue of Dany Laferrière by sculptor Roger Langevin.

The statue, made of a new composite material depicts the famous writer sitting on the top step of a set of stairs. On the sides of the stairs, viewers can read excerpts from his novel L’exil vaut le voyage, which is also the sculpture’s title.

When reading an article on the fifth anniversary of Dany Laferrière’s induction into the Académie française, Langevin was inspired by the strength of the accompanying photo, which showed the writer sitting in a stairway. Montreal already boasts another work by the sculptor: the statue titled Félix Leclerc in La Fontaine Park.
