Exceptional Closure of the Grande Bibliothèque and Temporary Shutdown of Online Services

In the wake of the La Place 0-5 website hack on May 8, the Centre gouvernemental de cyberdéfense has requested that every public agency operating with the involved IT supplier immediately shut down access to its digital services.

Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ) is a client of this supplier and has therefore disabled part of its computer-based systems. This decision effectively closes the Grande Bibliothèque and shuts down several online services until Tuesday morning when corrective action will be implemented.

Preemptive emergency measure

This preemptive emergency measure is required to protect the personal information of BAnQ subscribers. Please note that no data breach has been reported regarding users of the Grande Bibliothèque or of any of the services offered by BAnQ.

BAnQ’s website is still operational as are a number of its services, including BAnQ numérique, the institution’s digital platform, and its online activites. Furthermore, the information and reference service, accessible by phone and email, remain up and running.

Thank you for your understanding.

The Head Office of Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec
