BAnQ's Chief Executive Officer Leaps Into Education

Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ) announces today that Ms. Christiane Barbe, BAnQ's current Chief Executive Officer, will move on to the Fédération des commissions scolaires du Québec (FCSQ) as Director General starting May 29, 2017.

Ms. Barbe has been in office at BAnQ since August 2014. Under her leadership, the Grande Bibliothèque's ground floor was reshaped into a vital civic space, and the Square Banque Nationale, an area specifically dedicated to teenagers, saw the light of day.

Ms. Barbe also spearheaded the renewal of BAnQ's agreement with Ville de Montréal which extended the Grande Bibliothèque's opening hours on Friday evenings. Over a year ago, acting upon her recommendation, the Ministère de la Culture et des Communications and Ville de Montréal tasked BAnQ with reinventing the Saint-Sulpice library.

''The advancement of the knowledge society, of culture and education have always been at the very centre of my professional commitment. It will be an absolute privilege to bring my expertise to the table on the issue of education, a top priority for the government,'' declared Ms. Barbe.

During the course of her 36-year career as a Québec public official, Ms. Barbe served as President of the Commission de la fonction publique du Québec, Deputy Minister at the Ministère de l'Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport from 2009 to 2011, and Deputy Minister at the Ministère de la Culture, des Communications et de la Condition féminine from 2004 to 2009. Prior to that, she held the position of Assistant Deputy Minister responsible for the Regions in this same department, from 2001 to 2004.
