Prolonged Disruption of BAnQ’s Online Services

Due to a cybersecurity breach, we shut down part of our online services last Friday.

Since then, there has been no evidence of a new data breach and no leaks related to BAnQ user data or services have occurred. We are currently working to secure our site’s security settings in order to gradually restore services.

We understand how important these public services are and our teams are working relentlessly to restore as many disabled services as possible in the upcoming week.

Services currently unavailable

  • My account: holds and access to external digital resources such as Pretnumerique.ca and OverDrive. The rest of the site, including the catalogue, remains browsable and searchable. Favourites are disabled.
  • The Service québécois de traitement documentaire (SQTD, or Québec Library Record Processing Service) and the Advitam search engine.
  • Interlibrary Loan (though it remains available for users from other participating libraries).
  • External digital resources from BAnQ numérique, the institution’s digital platform (including e-books: Pretnumerique.ca and OverDrive).
  • Publishers' extranet: legal deposit and ISBN.
  • The Grande Bibliothèque’s wireless network.
  • Service québécois du livre adapté (SQLA, or Québec adapted book service): book downloads, additions to the basket and home delivery; the catalogue remains accessible.

On-site services

  • BAnQ's public wireless network is not currently accessible, but users can log in to the MTLWiFi network.
  • Patrons cannot currently place a hold or renew materials by themselves, but they can do so on site at the Grande Bibliothèque’s information desks (Comptoirs d’information).
  • The availability status of materials in the catalogue may not reflect reality. You can confirm the availability of an item at the research assistance desks (Comptoirs d’aide à la recherche).
  • You can still borrow materials at the self-checkout terminals.
  • You can pay your fines and fees at the ground floor service desk.
