Donating and aqcquisition

The development of the collections of Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ) is based primarily on legal deposit, as with most national libraries. The terms and conditions in force governing legal deposit stem from the Act respecting Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec and an attendant regulation.

In order to reconstitute the whole of national publishing, BAnQ seeks to acquire through purchasing or donations the documents published before legal deposit came into force in 1968, as well as documents published outside Québec which deal with Québec or to which Quebecers have contributed. It is noteworthy that, at the time of its creation in 1968, BAnQ increased its holdings through the acquisition of 81,808 volumes from the Sulpicians.

You can help BAnQ complete its collections by donating documents from or about Québec . To learn more, consult the section entitled Donating published documents to BAnQ. The joint contributions of legal deposit, purchasing and donation will enable BAnQ to complete the national collection and to build a heritage in accord with its fundamental mission.
