Heritage collection

Heritage collection of geographic maps

The heritage collection of maps contains more than 60,000 maps, plans and atlases published from the 16th century to the present. Composed of items received by legal deposit, purchase or donation, the collection is one of the most complete in existence on Québec, past and present. Included are maps of New France, fire insurance maps, topographic maps and numerous other types of published maps. These items, which are held at BAnQ Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie, can be located using the catalogue.

Cartographic archives

The cartographic archives spread among BAnQ's ten archives facilities consist of a total of about 190,000 maps and plans produced since the 17th century, and over a million aerial photographs taken from the 1920s to 1960. These extremely varied holdings include survey plans, plans of seigneuries, township plans and much more. The archival fonds that contain these materials can be located using the Pistard search tool (available in French only).

Universal collection

Collections of maps, plans and atlases at the Grande Bibliothèque

The maps in the universal collection are located on Level 3 of the Grande Bibliothèque. These recent, various-scale maps, in excess of 3,000, represent the world on many scales, while giving pride of place to Québec. Most are tourism maps, outdoor maps, road maps, city maps or bathymetric charts. They can be looked up in the catalogue.
