This agreement will allow the two institutions to step up their information-sharing efforts, carry out joint projects and activities, collaborate in the acquisition of archival fonds representing achievements in comedy, and support the promotion of the fonds' materials. The Observatoire de l’humour (OH), a body which contributes to the expansion of research on humour to understand its relevance in society, and the Association des professionnels de l'industrie de l'humour (APIH), an organization that develops and promotes the humour industry, are partners in this project.

"There can never be too much humour or too many comedians in our societies. Our knowledge of Québec humour comes to a large extent from the archival fonds donated to our institution by major artisans. From Jean Grimaldi to Dominique Michel, several have entrusted their manuscripts and notebooks to us. This agreement with the École reinforces our ambition to continue to nourish and democratize the cultural heritage preserved by BAnQ," said Guy Berthiaume.

"The creation of comedy mirrors our society. It reflects our identity. Promoting the collection of archives in the comedy and humour sector and facilitating access to such collections will shed renewed light on who we are and stimulate research. With the convergence of the respective missions of the ÉNH, APIH, OH and BAnQ, this collaboration promises to be spirited!" added Louise Richer.

BAnQ holds several archival fonds representing the performing arts and television. In the field of comedy, the collection includes the fonds of Yvon Deschamps, Jean Bissonnette, Clémence DesRochers, Claude Meunier, Dominique Michel and Jean-Pierre Plante.
