A section of the ceiling collapses on the ground floor at the Grande Bibliothèque

Montréal, April 26, 2017 – An incident occurred today just after noon on the ground floor of the Grande Bibliothèque of Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ), in Montréal. Part of the ceiling collapsed in the News and New Releases section. No one was injured. A survey of the damage by BAnQ officials is currently underway.

Staff noticed cracks before the incident and the area was made secure. The section that collapsed had recently been altered as part of work carried out on the ground floor by a contractor. It is the only structure of its type within the building.

BAnQ wishes to reassure citizens that the Grande Bibliothèque remains a safe place.
