Pursuant to the terms of the Act respecting Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec, BAnQ is administered by a board of directors, which is headed by the chair and chief executive officer of the institution.

Board of Directors
The BAnQ Board of Directors, after discussion, adopts matters that include the direction, general policies and rules of BAnQ, as well as the institution’s budget.

It meets approximately four times per year, both inside and outside Montréal.
It is made up of 16 members, including the Chair and Chief Executive Officer of BAnQ and one user representative.

No directors’ fees or other fees are paid to board members. As a rule, only reasonable travel and accommodation expenses for members from outside the island of Montréal are reimbursed.

Every year, all members of the Board of Directors must file a conflict of interest statement.

Executive committees
The Board of Directors is supported by advisory committees.
These committees are made up of members of the Board of Directors, representatives of BAnQ staff and outside members. Their mandate is to formulate advice and recommendations for the Board of Directors. There are four such committees:

  • Audit committee
  • BAnQ collections and services committee
  • Assistive services committee
  • Information technology committee
